Charmed Is Coming Back To Your TV Screen! Yay or Nay?

Since we’re in the era of remakes, I suppose this was inevitable – Charmed is returning to TV. The good news is that it will be on The CW – a network which is absolutely finding its stride in the shows it’s commissioning. Currently, The CW is home to Black Lightning, Riverdale, The Flash, Dynasty, Supergirl, Supernatural, The Originals, Jane The Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and many more.

This reboot will be spearheaded by Jennie Snyder Urman, Jane the Virgin‘s creator and showrunner. When the CW first tried to reboot Charmed, the show would have been set in 1976, featuring a new trio of witches. However, this current reboot will be set in the present day and will be written by Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin. it will still feature a new trio of witches.

The original series ran for eight seasons from 1998 to 2006 and was wildly successful. The plotline of the original series followed the Halliwell sisters but we’re not sure yet if the new witches of this series will have any ties to the Halliwell family.

The plot of the original series:

The series narrative follows a trio of sisters, known as The Charmed Ones, the most powerful good witches of all time, who use their combined “Power of Three” to protect innocent lives from evil beings such as demons and warlocks. Each sister possesses unique magical powers that grow and evolve, while they attempt to maintain normal lives in modern-day San Francisco.

The new show is being described as “this fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centres on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”

While there’s a lot to look forward to here, alot of people are not happy about this reboot – including the original cast of the show, who said they weren’t treated fairly during the shows original run and it feels wrong for the network to try to capitalize on something they did not appreciate (paraphrasing here ????).

With the series moving forward, all we can do is simply hope for the best.
