‘Titans’ TV Series Has Almost All Of Its Major Characters – And It’s Turning Out Pretty Good

I woke up to news about Minka Kelly’s casting in the Titans TV series and I was pretty surprised because – 1, I’ve practically lived under a rock (buried in work) for the past month and 2, I didn’t realize that casting had already begun on the show; last I heard, they were still in early development talks over at TNT.

I actually liked that the show was going to be on TNT because that meant it would allow that certain ‘darkness’ that DC seems to require to thrive. I also found out this morning, the show would no longer be on TNT.

Oh well.

Back to the casting….

Minka Kelly and Alan Ritchson have been cast as Dawn Granger (Dove) and Hank Hall (Hawk) respectively. For those who aren’t familiar with the duo – Hawk and Dove are a superhero couple in the DC universe who seamlessly complement each other.

This is pretty good casting if you ask me. Minka Kelly has proved that she has what it takes with acting credits like the Charlie’s Angels TV Series, Friday Night Lights, The Roommate and Almost Human.

Meanwhile, Alan Ritchson is no stranger to comic book television shows, having appeared as Aquaman on Smallville. He also starred as Thad Castle in the cult-favorite television show ‘Blue Mountain State’, as Gloss in Hunger Games and as Raphael in the live-action Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles franchise.

See, we’re in good hands.

One thing that had me scratching my head though was the age of the actors. See… as talented as these guys are, Alan Ritchson is 32 years old and Minka is 37. The titular Titans in the show are pretty famous for being, well, Teens; so if anything, it stirs up curiosity about what direction the show will go (not necessarily in a bad way.) But if you really think about it, older actors and characters mean the show can take on darker and more mature storylines that would have normally been limited with younger actors and characters….so there’s that.

That’s probably why the show is called just ‘Titans’, instead of ‘Teen Titans’ because they probably won’t be taking the younger route for the characters.

In other casting news – this happened in early August but I’m just finding out about it because like I said, I’ve been under the rock – Brenton Thwaites was cast as Dick Grayson, Anna Diop as Starfire/ Koriand’r and Teagan Croft as Raven (my love!!).

Brenton Thwaites will be playing Dick Grayson in his Robin days instead of Nightwing probably because a Nightwing movie is in development and they probably don’t want to confuse fans by introducing two Nightwings (but they gave us two versions of The Flash though….I’m just saying).

Hmmn, tbvh, I don’t know how I feel about Brenton playing Dick Grayson. Grayson is a pretty complex character and I saw Brenton in Gods of Egypt, and he was pretty bland there, but this could possibly be due to the script and not entirely the actor’s fault. However, I also watched his performance in Oculus and he was actually quite brilliant in it. This could probably just be a case of the actor needing the right material to show off his skills. I hope he does the character justice.

P.s, I haven’t seen The Giver or Pirates of The Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, so I don’t know how he was in them

As for Anna Diop playing Starfire…

People are legit angry that a black actress has been cast to play an ORANGE alien. I don’t understand, do they not have better things to be upset about? It’s funny the things that rile people up sha. Obviously, many people auditioned and the producers and casting director went with the best person for the job, get over it haters.  I’m just glad to see more black people getting cast in roles like these.

Another thing I see people complain about is that the actress is not pretty enough or sexy enough to play Starfire and I have only one question for those people – ARE Y’ALL BLIND?

See how pretty she looks….like a freaking queen. I honestly can’t wait for this show.

I’m super excited to see how the show handles Raven, I absolutely love her – she is one of the more complex superheroes DC has, being the daughter of a demon and all. I’m not particularly familiar with Teagan Croft but I hope she has the chops to carry the role – she probably does.

Meanwhile, I can’t wait for the casting of Beast Boy to be announced. I wonder if Cyborg will be included in this series? Probably not, since he’ll be appearing on the big screen in the upcoming Justice League movie.

What a time to be alive.
